Job description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Fabrication Specialist to join our Engineering team. The primary focus of this role is to support the prototyping and fabrication of engineering designs, utilizing a variety of tools and machinery, with a specific emphasis on operating a press brake and a laser cutter. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in model shop operations, metal fabrication, and precision machining. 

Job requirements

  • Collaborate with engineers to fabricate prototypes, ensuring accurate execution of design specifications. 

  • Operate and maintain a press brake for bending and forming sheet metal components. 

  • Utilize a CNC laser cutter for precision cutting of various materials. 

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to guide fabrication processes. 

  • Perform secondary machining, MIG welding, and finishing operations as required. 

  • Ensure quality control through accurate measurements and inspections of fabricated components. 

  • Maintain a clean and organized model shop, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained. 

  • Assist in the development and improvement of manufacturing and prototyping processes. 

  • Adhere to safety protocols and best practices while working with shop equipment. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 Required:  

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, machining, or a similar hands-on fabrication environment. 

  • Proficient in the safe operation of fabrication tools. 

  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, machining, or welding. 

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. 

  • Experience with measurement tools such as callipers, micrometres, and gauges. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in a workshop setting. 

  • Good communications skills. 

Value-Added Skills: 

  • Familiarity with CNC machining, Manual machining, 3D printing, or other rapid prototyping methods is A PLUS. 

  • Experience in press brake operation, laser cutting, welding or machining A PLUS. 

  • Technical certification in manufacturing, machining, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field A PLUS.
